Valuation of Hands in Baccarat

The rules of baccarat game are quite different from the general expectations of people. It does not have an elongated list of game rules like other games played in casinos. Playing the game for pleasure of playing and love of opportunity is the key rule of this game. After all this game is basically all about chance.

Baccarat Objective

In order to understand any game, one should know its goal first. This knowledge is very important to play the game properly. For example, while playing blackjack, the aim of player is to come nearer to total of "21" before the dealer. It means that if you have cards that totals to "21" then you are an expected winner until the dealer balances your score.

Valuation of Hands in Baccarat

In baccarat, the goal is to find out who between you and dealer will score the sum closest to "9" with the available cards. You don't bet on your chances of wining, rather you bet on who you think is the expected winner. In this game you can even bet on a tie, the option not available while playing blackjack.

Card Values single to Baccarat

In baccarat values of single digit cards are counted. So cards of 10, King, Queen and Jack have null values and there score is zero. In this game value of 1 is assigned to Ace. If the total of dealt cards exceeds ten, then their value is deducted by 10, in order to get a number having a single digit.

So the cards of 6 and 10 will have a combined value of 6. Similarly cards Ace and Jack will be considered as having a total value of 1. This particular valuation of cards appears bit difficult to learn. But this understanding is very important before you play the baccarat game.

Playing Baccarat

In the beginning you and bank are given two cards each. Third card rule allows you to draw a third card in certain situations. If you don't take this option of drawing third card under the rule, then bank must draw the third one in the situation that their total is equal to or less than 5, or equal to or greater than 6. The bank should also draw a card if its value comes out to be less than 3, without considering the number of the card drawn by you. If you draw a card which is not 8 and the value of bank's cards is smaller than 4, then here again bank must draw a new card. Now if you draw a card of 0, 1, 8 or 9, and value of bank's hand is smaller than 5, then it must take another card. Similarly if you draw a card of 4, 5, 6 or 7, and bank's value is smaller than 6 then it has to draw a card. But if you draw a card of 6 or 7 and banks value is smaller than 7, then bank have to stay at value of 7.
