Baccarat in Movies

A Hard Day's Night, 1964

One of the most famous movies of the sixties, in which baccarat had a prominent pace was "A Hard Day's Night". The movie featuring the Beatles, describes in game in a lot of detail. The movie is about a concert that the Beatles have to perform in London and so, come to the visit from their native Liverpool. The movie is all about how the Beatles overcome different problems and finally succeed in performing in the concert. Baccarat comes into the movie through the Beatles grandfather, who has a weakness for the game and decided to go gambling for a few nights. The old man is a novice in the game, not being able to differentiate between Banco and Bingo. He downs drink after drink in casino bar and plays hand after hand at the baccarat tables. Despite knowing nothing about the game, he wins a lot of money in it but finally loses it all to pay the casino bar. Baccarat is described in great detail in the movie and is a lot of fun to watch the old man bungle up terms and still win.

The Bond Movies

Baccarat is James Bond's favorite casino game. The British super agent 007, can be seen playing baccarat in a lot of his adventures, beginning right from the early releases. The 2006 remake of the Bond movie Casino Royale featuring Daniel Craig, shows him playing poker in the casino instead of the trademark baccarat. The baccarat and Bond lovers were equally unhappy with this new development in the character of the Bond. The movie could not reach the heights and success that most of the other Bond movies achieved. The Bond movies which feature baccarat are Golden Eye, Dr. No, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Never Say Never Again.

Casino Royale, 1967

Baccarat gets to play a hardcore role in this Bond Movie. The real Bond has left the secret service and retires. In the movie, the retires Bond is brought back to fight the SMERSH. This is not a Bond movie, just a comic take on the character where the Bond ultimately beats the Russian group SMERSH, by managing to beat the Russian Le Chiffre. There are not one but six Bond characters in the movie, all of whom are together in their chase for the Russians. The secret agencies try to confuse the Russians and create multiple Bond characters.  The villain tries to raise the money for his illegal operations by playing baccarat and Evelyn Tremble, one of the six Bonds, is sent to defeat him. The film ends in a big confusion and a big blast that sends all the Bonds to heaven and they are all seen floating like angels wearing feathers.

Jackie Chan and Baccarat

Baccarat is the favorite game of the action superstar Jackie Chan as well. He loves playing the game off the screen too. He can be seen playing the game in a number of his movies like Rush Hour 3 of 2007 and City Hunter of 1993.
